This past summer during July and August 2016 the garden extended its outreach to another audience, Youth Interns 3 boys and 2 girls ages 16 to 17 .The Garden became a community service site for local youth through CAMBA intern programming. They worked hard in keeping control of weeds in addition to shrubs on the surround fence. They learned basic gardening techniques including use of tools. Some had no prior experience. The Interns also mended the raised beds and stained all garden furniture. Their instruction continued to first seeds planted August 1, 2016 sprouting 11 days later(first picture). The last picture taken September 7, 2016 shows robust harvest of kale, lettuce, radishes and green beans. The East 43rd Street Community Garden Inc. hope to maintain reaching a diverse audience and continue youth community service mentoring. We welcome all.

We began building the Rain Water Harvesting System September 16, 2016 relying on a PDF done by GrowNYC to start the project which did not contain blue prints or plans. We recognized our garden group was uneducated laywomen with regard to building and construction. The success of this project did not happen by obtaining blueprints or plans. But rather through the interaction with the vendors selling materials/supplies. Most important to our progress , obtaining male construction expert consultation. We finally completed construction only days before the first snow fall in December.
