History
The East 43rd Street Block Association work on this Garden occurred in June 2014 beginning with paperwork and planning of this project. It was organized to have a public green space, build civic betterment, community pride and pool the talents and resources of our community for the mutual social benefit.

The Garden was funded through a grant from Council Member Jumaane Williams and created in collaboration with Brooklyn Queens Land Trust, NYC Parks Department and community residents.
There were Numerous volunteers working to change the "eyesore" land into a community garden.
The construction started May 18 to 27, 2015. We worked hard over 2 days May 26-27 raked & cleaned soil of debris and rocks.
On June 27th, 2015, East 43rd Street Block Association President Rochelle Sanders, Brooklyn Queens Land Trust , Green Thumb from the NYC Parks Department and Council member Jumaane D. Williams joined by Assembly Member Helene E. Weinstein & Nieuw Amersfort Civic Association including community residents participated in a ribbon cutting opening celebration for the first garden located in Amersfort, Brooklyn.
In December 2015 Mayor De Blasio preserved the East 43rd Community Garden from housing development. It was placed under NYC Park Department jurisdiction January 2016 as a green thumb garden.
On April 27, 2016 The East 43rd Street Community Garden Rain Water Harvesting Project was approved for a 2016 Citizen Committee Neighborhood Grant . It will introduce an awareness of water conservation and the global shortages due to water pollution. The construction of the rain water capture system is a way to bring the community together including education in sustainability best practices.
On June 29th 2016 The East 43rd Street Community Garden was Incorporated by the State of New York.
On September 19th 2016, The East 43rd Street Community Garden Inc. obtained 501(c)3 non-profit Charitable Organization status.
